Riding the metro in San Francisco
Our first full day in San Francisco was a Sunday, so we found a church and then spent the rest of the day walking around town and eating Chex Mix.
We were really tired at the end of that day
Headed out to find some breakfast Monday Morning
It still stinks about 15 years later. (If you don't get it, don't worry. Probably only one person will.)
Ty was a fantastic tour guide
The most zig-zaggy street in the world: Lombard Street
Sourdough bread and Ty the Turtle/Terrapin
Eating fish and chips and listening to a street corner band
Chinatown
We had to pay 50 cents to be allowed to take this picture in the fortune cookie factory. Tip: chocolate fortune cookies aren't as good as they sound. Stick to the classic ones.
Ty started speaking to this man in Chinese, so the man tried to teach him how to play the erhu
The one picture we were able to get in the theater before we got in trouble. Yes, we are wearing ponchos. We saw Blue Man Group and it was a lot of fun. We even got to be a part of the show.
On our flight up to Washington State. We were worn out after a fun week in San Francisco.
Ty booked us a fun stay at a "Cottage of Romance" or something like that. It was a really sweet surprise.
We went camping for a few days and explored the Olympic Peninsula in Washington.
This was my first time seeing a foreign country. Say hello to Canada. She's off in the distance.
Ty was a fun explorer
Our spoils from the tide pool
Exploring an old bunker
For those of you who know Ty pretty well, you might know that he enjoys chasing un-catchable animals. He's talked me into doing this with him a few times. He caught me following a deer and had to snap a picture.
On top of a mountain in the Olympic mountain range (in June)
We went on a fun bike ride through the woods and saw some really large trees and some waterfalls.
Ty managed to crawl his way through this entire thing. If we're ever in a bind and someone needs to crawl through small spaces, I'm glad to know that he could do it. I'd get too claustrophobic.
We got a kick out of the town of Forks. That place really thrives off of the Twilight series. I guess it gave them something to brag about or something. We even got some food at a burger place that had a lot of its food named after Twilight characters.
After returning to Seattle to stay with Ray and Cali, we took our truck in to get new tires. When we went to pick it up, we learned that apparently we'd had a friend join us during our camping trip. The workers at the tire place got a kick out of it. I'm surprised he stayed that long. He even made it all the way back to Moses Lake with us, then we think Dan ate him.
I decided to get a little domestic. Jane (Ty's mom) helped me make a quilt out of Ty's old t-shirts. We had a lot of fun doing it.
While the girls were being crafty inside, the boys were being craftsmen outside. They put the finishing touches on the cedar chest Ty gave me for Christmas. It's beautiful!
We also got to see our first nephew a couple hours after his birth. Say hello to Levin Follett.
I had to take it.
We stopped in Idaho on our way back to Colorado. We got to stay with Ty's Aunt Marcia, and cousins Haley and Ryan. We had a lot of fun with them. Sorry, we're often terrible about remembering to take pictures. We also forgot to take pictures on our stop in Utah for Haley and Ryan's sealing. While we were in Idaho, we also went rock climbing with my brother Josh. It was easy to remember to take pictures with him because he asked me to take a ton of pictures to send to his missionary.
We found a tattoo on BYU-Idaho campus.
Back in Colorado, on the 4th of July, we took Dallin rock climbing. He did awesome!
Our Fourth of July All-American Feast!
Dallin had always wanted to go to the top of the incline (a really really steep running "trail" up a mountain) for the fireworks on the fourth. The following two pictures are Ty's and Dallin's feelings about the imminent adventure.
Jayna and I were fine with it though. We walked up the winding Barr Trail while the boys did the hard stuff.
They said it couldn't be done, but I got a picture of the fireworks.
Jayna's surprise (belated) birthday party with us
Ty and Jayna are constantly competing for the title of "2A" in my family. Mom is #1, the kids are #2. The favorite kid is 2A. It was always Jayna, but Ty has decided to move in on her territory. He was kind enough to give this to her though on her birthday.
Dallin doing mom's job of arranging Jayna's gifts for a picture.
We played a lot of Just Dance. We found it pretty hilarious.
While we were in Colorado, we also loaded up on food storage
On our way out to our new home, we made a TON of stops. Like I said, we're pretty bad about taking pictures. We stopped in Oklahoma and spent a day with Ty's cousins, the Ellsworths. We also visited my mission for a few days, and believe it or not, this is the only picture we took with people. This is the Duncan family. They were an amazing family to work with while I was a missionary and I have a lot of incredible memories with them.
Graceland
One of my favorite landmarks in Memphis
A boot store we found out in the middle of nowhere. We felt like we had to sneak out the door when the sales people weren't looking. They were persistent.
We also found an awesome cheese store.
The Kansas City temple, almost done!
In Independence, MO. The RLDS temple.
On the Church of Christ property, they have the cornerstones of the intended temple.
Liberty Jail
A monument in a cemetery for the 3 witnesses
A cornerstone in Far West, MO.

Adam-Ondi-Ahman
Ty was so kind to give me a hair flower
The Nauvoo temple
Statues outside the Nauvoo temple. Our photographer obviously didn't understand the purpose of this picture. The main people got their heads cut off.
Here's the statues that got cut off.
Ty spent awhile trying to figure out the brake system on a covered wagon. It deserved a picture. A few missionaries stopped and asked if everything was okay and if the wagon was broken.
Carthage Jail
We also got to stop in Ohio and stay with my aunt and uncle Karla and Jeff. We also got to see Ty's cousins, aunt, and uncle - the Richardsons who live in the same town. My aunt and uncle took us out one day for lunch to an Ohio favorite, Skyline Chili. Spaghetti with chili and cheese, and chili cheese dogs. It was pretty good.
This is where I lived when I was a little kid. It wasn't decked out in Ohio State stuff then. You should have seen the fence - I wish I had gotten a picture.
There was a torrential rainstorm one night while we were there, and the rain soaked through our tarps and other rain precautions and soaked Ty's Chinese flashcards and a ton of other stuff. We turned my aunt and uncle's house into something like this while they all dried.
Cedar Point. Ty has always wanted to go here and ride all of the roller coasters. We had a fun day and rode every single roller coaster except for the little kid ones.
This was one of our favorite coasters. It only lasted about 17 seconds, but it was pretty fun. I'm not much of a thrill-seeker, and I almost blacked out on the first coaster of the day, but I got myself acclimated and had a lot of fun the rest of the day.
Check out these glasses. I love that I have a camera phone because I just pretended like I was texting and he looked right at me. I may not have tricked him, but the world may never know.
The Kirtland, OH temple
From there, we just basically finished off our road trip out to DC. Hope you survived the long ride.
Ohhhhhh! This was so fun to see. I'm so glad you didn't weed out any more pictures, because I liked them all.
ReplyDeleteAnd to think you also took pictures of each state line you crossed. I thought that was quite a feat.
I'm so glad you documented this. Thank you for taking the time to do it.
I can't believe all that you saw and did this summer. Whoa.
Wow, that is an epic roadtrip!! Loved all the pics!
ReplyDeleteSo fun! Now let's see a picture of you now! :)
ReplyDeleteHoly moly!! That's such a sweet road trip! I didn't realize that you stopped in so many places! Kinda jealous... What an amazing experience.
