AFTON'S HAIR: a comedy

When our little girl was first born, she had a lot of hair.  A lot.  I mean, I'm not sure I've ever seen so much hair on a newborn baby before or since.

She was our little rock star.

Her hair was naturally a little mohawk, with a little tuft at the crown of her head, and a whole lot of party in the back.

Then it started to fall out.  She started looking like she had male-pattern baldness.

She wore a nice little bald spot into the back of her head too, as most little babies do.

However, she held on to that tuft at the crown of her head for a really long time, as well as the lower portion of the aforementioned party in the back (with a hole in the middle).

Then it started laying itself flat from all the weight, but that depends on your definition of "flat."  Honestly, I'd say it did more of a fold-over.  Those roots just like to stand on end.

She also managed to hold on to about 53 random hairs all over her head that happened to be about 5 inches long.

And that wasn't even a picture with back lighting--something that makes her bear a strange resemblance to Albert Einstein.  It was out of control.  So.......

Yes I did.

Fun fact: I could never remember which side that little tuft would flop over to naturally.  It never fell in the same direction two days in a row.  Case cracked: there was no natural direction.

Two competing cowlicks.  Impressive.

The poor girl has been sick this week.  AND she had to get shots yesterday.  Poor thing.  While most kids were getting Halloween treats, Afton was getting all tricks.  But doesn't she make a cute little bunny?

  1. Michelle, this is hilarious! haha. I can't believe you put her in a garbage sack and then clipped her hair! haha. That is too funny. I think she looks pretty darn cute either way. I just love the last picture. I cannot believe how big she's getting! She is so super cute! Perfect little features!

  2. Oh my goodness, I laughed and laughed as I read this. The funniest thing is you never complained about it along the way, so I had no idea you thought it was such a "party." Oh, your humor in this is funny.

I cannot believe those cowlicks. Oh man. Now what? Two pony tails coming straight out the back of her head? She'll never need to rat her hair should the big poof come back in style. She's got her own lift going.

She is ever so darling. I just love seeing all the pictures of her.

  3. It's actually pretty amazing that she still looked cute with all those hair issues. I laughed and laughed during this post. What a cute little girl. I think my favorite picture is the one of her getting her hair buzzed. And the bunny suit. What a funny girl with funny hair.

  6. I laughed the whole way through this. I liked the competing cowlicks and the definition of flat. So clever and a bunch of cute pictures to go with it.

  8. It seems that Afton will have lifelong struggles with those cowlicks. At least they're in back instead of the front right! It's so fun to see you getting to know your little girl more and more. She is ADORABLE!! Thanks for letting her come see us in September, and thanks for posting!!

  9. P.S. I think you're a stellar hair cutter. I cut Kory's hair for the first time, and his hair looks a LOT like Afton's new due. However I think Afton pulls it off better...

  10. AHHHH-hahahahahaha!! "A whole lot of party in the back!" Awesome description. I GASPED when I saw you with those clippers. Gasped, and grabbed my chest. Did you hear me yell, "NOOOOOOOOOOOO, Michelle, DON'T DO IT!" all the way from here? So, so sad/funny. Good thing she's cute.
