... No, don't make a peanut butter and jellyfish sandwich. Sorry, excuse the terrible pun.
About a week and a half ago, Ty and I drove over to Levi, Emily, and Andy's house, stayed the night, and went to Virginia Beach the next day. We had a great time. We had great hosts, great company, and some great adventures.
Andy was really fun to watch. I carried him from the car to the beach, and when I put him down on the sand to walk, he wasn't quite sure what to do, so he just stood there for a minute and then started to take itty-bitty steps until he got used to it. Throughout the day, he got more and more accustomed to the sand... with some little nudges of course...
After lunch, we noticed not too many people were in the water anymore. We assumed they were all just eating lunch like us. So we went out to play and heard some guys around us saying things like, "Ouch!" "I got another one!" "I hate those things!" Come to find out the jellyfish had moved in. (The inspiration for my weak post title.) So we cleared out and decided to wait it out on the sand under our umbrella. Eventually, we saw this...
Everyone had decided that they weren't going to let those darned jellyfish ruin their day at the beach, but those jellyfish were going to MAKE their day at the beach. They were catching them! Some kids even started a little jellyfish bank where everyone made deposits and no one made withdrawals. (I'm not doing very well with my puns and jokes today, am I?) Eventually, they poured all of their buckets out into a big hole in the sand and covered it back up -- they felt like they were really making the world a better place being jellyfish-free and all.
So, of course we decided to get in on the fun.
Even Andy caught a few!
This next picture is after all of the moms made all of their kids stop catching jellyfish, and all of the adult helpers decided they were tired of it. Most people had decided to just go play in the water again. (I had to laugh listening to one kid trying so hard to convince his mom that they were ridding the ocean of jellyfish so that no one would ever have to wait on the beach for them to clear out ever again.)
Levi and Ty pressed on in the quest and continued catching jellyfish for a long time after everyone else. They were fun to watch. They found some really crazy looking jellyfish and had a great time. We had a great time with Levi, Emily, and Andy. We're glad they live so close and that they are so much fun.
So, when life gives you jellyfish, what do you do? Catch as many as you can, and maybe it will be more fun than wave jumping and body surfing anyways. (Sorry, I couldn't let the bad pun die.)
Oh gee! You guys are going to have the most fun in life. If you can rid the beach of jellyfish, why, I think you can do just about ANYTHING.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting. It's so fun to see what life is like in your world.
I laughedvand laughed as I read this. I guess you and I have the same sense of humor. My favorite part... jellyfish bank and Ty and Levi not quiting. Keep 'em coming
ReplyDeleteVery nice! Looks like fun, hope you didn't get scared duing Irene.
